"Free" by Jano Bachrach - a music video
This was filmed in and outside of Saint Jean Pla de Corts, France in October 2022. In between my au pair families I was on a week-long workaway to help a woman and her family renovate their house and garden. During my stay, one of my host’s longtime friends, Alejandro, was also there. Alejandro (Jano Bachrach) is an amazing guitarist and musician. There was one song he wanted to translate to English, so we spent some time translating it together–while maintaining the musicality of the lyrics. The day he left, we decided to film a video of some of his songs. This is a music video of the translated song, “Free.” It is not a true finalized version of the song, rather a moment in time of its progress. One afternoon, Cinzia, her mother, Ana, Alejandro and I brought food to one of the lakes beside the town to enjoy a picnic–which is where many of the story clips come from. I like to think that the humble, hopeful lyrics of Alejandro’s song and his free spirited whistling and guitar strumming captured the natural calm and beauty of the southern France landscape.
